Each September, students and families at Varsity Acres School are invited to join thousands of schools worldwide in the annual Terry Fox Event. In preparation for the event, students reflect on topics such as Terry Fox’s legacy, meeting challenges, empathy, and setting personal goals. Students are also learning about a Indigenous runners, including Tom Longboat. You may wish to support your child’s learning about Terry Fox through discussion at home. Our VAS run will take place on Tuesday, September 24 at 8:55 am. Please dress for the weather, as there is no rain date. We are looking for 10 parent volunteers for this event. If you are interested in volunteering and have a current police clearance on file with the school, please email Madame Shana Jolin at smjolin@cbe.ab.ca Volunteers will be taken on a first-come/first-served basis. If you have a child in Kindergarten and wish to volunteer, please indicate this in your email so that we can place you accordingly.
Students and families are invited to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation. Online contributions are encouraged – visit: https://schools.terryfox.ca/VarsityAcres. Tax receipts will be issued by the Terry Fox Foundation for online donations over $20.00.
New this year, online donations only. We will not be collecting cash donations brought in by students and we are encouraging any donations to be made online. All monies raised through our event will be to further the cause of cancer research. Thank you in advance in supporting our Terry Fox Run.
