Message from Mme Brooke
Thank you parents and guardians for your partnership and time during parent teacher conferences. We appreciate your teamwork in support of your child's academic and social success at school. Parent teacher conferences and report cards are considered formal reporting opportunities, but families should always feel welcome to reach out to the school. Communication about your child begins in the classroom by reaching out to the classroom teacher. This is the optimal way to connect about your child's schooling.
While it is most optimal to first reach out to the classroom teacher, Mme Brooke, Principal, and Mme Courtney, Assistant Principal, are available to work collaboratively alongside teachers to support students and their families. We are a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful working and learning environment for all students, parents, and staff.
Physical Education
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our Grade 4 and 5 students have begun their speed skating sessions at the Olympic Oval, and we are thrilled with the positive start. A heartfelt thank you to our parent volunteers for dedicating their time and helping ensure such a smooth launch to this incredible experience.
This opportunity would not have been possible without the flexibility and support of our homeroom teachers across all grades. We are grateful for their willingness to accommodate a modified PE schedule leading up to the Winter Break.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to VASPFS for generously covering the cost of bussing. Their support helps make this year’s Grade 4/5 experience more accessible and affordable for our school community.
Kind regards,
Monsieur David

Book Loan Process
NEW Book Loan Process: If a book is 30-days overdue, it will be considered lost and a replacement fee will be added to your child’s account. Please note, all fees are final. Once the fee is paid, the book becomes the student’s property and fee will not be removed.
To help manage our resources, and align with other CBE schools, we are updating our library Book Loan Process.
Please use eLibrary to help your child/ren manage and return their library books on time This will help avoid any lost book fees from being added to their account. As well, students will not be able to borrow books until overdue books are returned.
Please feel free to return library books to the office.
Lost and Found Update
- Please remember to label all clothing items, water bottles, shoes and lunchboxes with your child's name.
- Parents are welcome to come check the lost and found anytime during school hours

Outdoor Learning Committee
Are you interested in helping to support and foster outdoor learning and play for VAS students? If yes, consider joining the Outdoor Learning Committee (OLC)! Over the past two years the OLC has worked hard to bring the gaga ball court, nature place space, new trees, and courtyard games to VAS. This year the OLC plans to focus on two new areas and is looking for volunteers to help plan fun activities!
If you are passionate about outdoor play and are interested in learning more about the OLC, please join our next meeting

Current OLC Projects
Winter Olympics: Help VAS celebrate the upcoming 2026 Olympic Winter Games! The OLC is looking for volunteers to help out with planning and hosting various events and activities to highlight winter Olympic sports. Ideas include skating at VCC rink, cross country skiing, and bringing Olympic athletes to VAS to present to students.
Urban Tree Forest: Earlier this year the OLC applied to the City of Calgary school tree planting program and VAS was been selected for a new urban forest on school grounds! The City of Calgary will work with two grade 4 classes in the spring and the urban forest tree planting will occur in May 2026. The OLC is planning to build events and activities around the existing program to ensure that all VAS students have a chance to participate in the new urban forest.
