Message from Mme Brooke
School Spirit
Next week is the final week of school in 2025! At VAS, we like to celebrate December and the upcoming holidays with fun winter and holiday wear! Students are welcome to wear their favourite holiday-inspired clothing, hats, headbands, "ugly sweaters" and festive pyjamas all next week. Classes will have the opportunity to enjoy a brief and intimate student-only carol sing in the gym next week. Our focus on teaching and learning continues.
Illness Outbreak Update
Daily, we continue to monitor our student absences due to illness to report to AHS. Parents- we need your help to call in all absences and indicate if the absence is due to illness. This supports accurate reporting to AHS. We continue to perform enhanced cleaning and sanitization around the school, including high touch points. Teachers are reminding students to wash their hands, cough and sneeze into their sleeves, and other precautions. Parents and guardians, we appreciate you monitoring your children's symptoms and following the guidelines provided in the official AHS letter that was sent earlier this week LINK

Central vs School-based Fees
There are two types of fees that can be applied: Central fees and school-based fees.
Central fees are set by the Calgary Board of Education and are not controlled by Varsity Acres School.
Central fees include:
- lunch supervision
- student supplies fee
- yellow bus/ transportation if your child is registered for the bus
School-based fees are set by Varsity Acres School based on the cost of an event/program and transportation. School-based fees include:
- field trips
- in-class activities
- school-wide residencies
To assist you with your planning, we will share the approximate school-based fees for the 2025-26 school year. Watch for an email next week with this information.
Student Absences
A friendly reminder that all student absences must be reported to our Absence Line at 403-777-6090 (Option 1), which is available 24 hours a day.
Even if you have emailed the school or your child’s teacher, please also call the Absence Line. While email can be convenient, messages may not be seen if staff are away. The phone line is checked daily, ensuring the information is always received.
Please remember to call each day your child is absent.
For example, if your child is home sick on Monday and remains away on Tuesday, we still need to hear from you each day. This helps us ensure all students are safe and accounted for.
Thank you for helping us keep our attendance records accurate!
