Message from Mme Brooke

Varsity Acres School and all CBE schools work continuously to foster a safe, caring, welcoming and respectful environment for all students and staff. Progressive discipline starts in the classroom with a proactive and supportive approach. Teachers lead classroom meetings and lessons to improve conflict resolution, resiliency and skills. The administration team always supports as required. At home, parents and guardians can also help with conversations guided by the Student Friendly Code of Conduct. The "I Can" statements at the end of the document are particularly helpful during a conversation with your child code-of-conduct-student-friendly.pdf

Students are expected to follow the student code of conduct while on the bus because it is an extension of the school.

Transportation

Southland School Bus Status. You can use the Southland MyBusStop application to see real-time GPS tracking of your child’s bus. Please go to mybussstop.ca for information and how to sign up.  The school code for Varsity Acres is CBEFU7TZN2

Central Fees

Central Fees include the noon supervision fee, the student supplies fee, and the transportation fee (if your child takes the yellow bus to school). The CBE has applied the Central Fees to your child’s account.  Please see the payment instructions LINK .  Please see the following website for information about CBE Central Fees

Please stay tuned for information about school-based fees in next week’s message.

Physical Education

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you to all of our wonderful parent volunteers who have taken the time to tie skates, support students on the ice, and help make our speed skating sessions at the Olympic Oval run smoothly. It has been incredible to see so many students show off their abilities, while others have overcome fear and uncertainty to apply the inline skating skills they learned last year in a brand-new context. Bravos, les élèves!

A gentle reminder for speed skating: warm, thick socks are strongly encouraged to help prevent blisters.

For regular PE classes, please note that Crocs are not appropriate footwear, as they do not provide the ankle support needed for dynamic movement. With winter weather upon us, I also encourage you to check in with your child to ensure their school shoes fit properly and are suitable for physical activity in the gym.

Thank you for your continued support,

Monsieur David

Outdoor Learning Committee

Are you interested in helping to support and foster outdoor learning and play for VAS students? If yes, consider joining the Outdoor Learning Committee (OLC)! Over the past two years the OLC has worked hard to bring the gaga ball court, nature place space, new trees, and courtyard games to VAS. This year the OLC plans to focus on two new areas and is looking for volunteers to help plan fun activities!

If you are passionate about outdoor play and are interested in learning more about the OLC, please join our next meeting

Current OLC Projects

Winter Olympics: Help VAS celebrate the upcoming 2026 Olympic Winter Games! The OLC is looking for volunteers to help out with planning and hosting various events and activities to highlight winter Olympic sports. Ideas include skating at VCC rink, cross country skiing, and bringing Olympic athletes to VAS to present to students.

Urban Tree Forest:  Earlier this year the OLC applied to the City of Calgary school tree planting program and VAS was been selected for a new urban forest on school grounds!  The City of Calgary will work with two grade 4 classes in the spring and the urban forest tree planting will occur in May 2026. The OLC is planning to build events and activities around the existing program to ensure that all VAS students have a chance to participate in the new urban forest.
