Parking and Crosswalks and U-Turns- OH MY!

Parents and Caregivers, please remember the traffic bylaws during drop-off and pick up times so our students and families stay safe:

  • Model for your student how to cross at the crosswalk instead of jaywalking. Our grade 5 Patrols are there to keep you safe in the afternoons!
  • There are a number of locations where U-Turns are NOT permitted. Plan your route so you do not have to perform a U-turn.
  • Drivers cannot park in a crosswalk, in fact drivers must park 5 meters away from a crosswalk.
  • The speed limit is 30 km/hour in a school zone. It is important to respect this speed, especially in the early morning hours when it is dark.
  • Fines can be issued for U-turns, parking too close to a crosswalk, and speeding.

We appreciate your help to keep our students and visitors safe.

Volunteer Thank Yous

A huge thank you to our parent/guardian/caregiver volunteers. It's field trip season, and your willingness to step up and help is so very much appreciated! Thanks to grade 3 parents for their participation in our recent week-long Open Minds trips. We also have volunteers reading with students and supporting classrooms. Our School Council and Sub- Committees (Outdoor Learning, Playground) and Parent Fundraising Society members are also always at work. No matter how you contribute, your time, efforts, patience and leadership makes a difference at VAS! Merci beaucoup:)

Thank you - Calgary Food Bank Holiday Food Drive

Merci beaucoup to everyone who contributed to our food drive in support of the Calgary Food Bank.  Together, Varsity Acres donated a total of 700 lbs of food and $150.  Merci for helping us to teach and learn about community, volunteerism, wants and needs, and giving to others.

Music Share

Music share is approaching at the end of January and the beginning of February. (See schedule below for times and dates) Music share is an opportunity for your students to show off their own musical talents. This can be playing an instrument, like the piano, or an instrument brought from home, like the violin or guitar. Some students have brought unique instruments to show the class, danced, sang.

PARTICIPATION IS STRICTLY VOLUNTARY.

Families or guardians are welcome to watch their student share and are encouraged to bring any instrument they might have to share their talent. We do, of course, have a piano and also have a drum kit for students who take drum lessons ONLY.

If your student would like to share, please fill out the form in the link below to let me know what musical talent they will be sharing and the name and composer of any song that they will be singing or dancing to so that we can ensure the lyrics are all school appropriate.

Casino

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Looking for one of the biggest ways to make a direct impact on your child’s school experience?  Volunteering for our upcoming Casino Fundraiser is one of the most meaningful ways to support Varsity Acres School....and we need your help!

Our Casino Fundraiser takes place on

Sunday, March 8th and

Monday, March 9th,

We are required to provide 50 volunteers from our school community for this fundraising event.

The casino fundraiser is our largest and can only be held once every two years. The funds raised help support many important initiatives that directly benefit Varsity Acres students, including:

  • In-school artist and educational residencies
  • Bussing costs for field trips
  • New audio/visual equipment for the gym
  • Upgrades such as new library furniture and learning space improvements

No experience is required, and training will be provided.  Volunteering is also a great way to meet other families and connect with the VAS community.

Thank you again for supporting our school community, we truly appreciate it!

Warm regards,

Varsity Acres School Council (VASC) & Varsity Acres School Parent Fundraising Society (VASPFS).  If you have any questions about the Casino, please email Varsity Acres School Council (VASC) varsityacres.sc@gmail.com
