Learning Considerations for the 2026-27 school year

We wanted to share with you that each spring teachers and administration work together to build class lists for the following school year.  We are confident in our knowledge of students, how they learn best and in our ability to balance the composition of each class. That being said, we value our partnership with parents and guardians. Should you wish to communicate specific information related to how your child learns best and any additional conditions for their success, you may do so by emailing Mme Brooke at brreilly@cbe.ab.ca and Mme Courtney at cdkleinswormink@cbe.ab.ca. Please communicate via email by Thursday, June 4, 2026.

Message from our Staff to our Volunteers

We want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of our volunteers who have supported our students and staff throughout this school year. Whether helping with learning opportunities, field trips, classroom activities, neighbourhood walks, school events, meetings, VASPFS, School Council, the casino, or enriching our curricular programming, your time and dedication have made a meaningful difference in our school community.

This week, a thank you card or student-created art project has come home to parents/guardians as a small token of our appreciation for all that you do. We truly value your support and the many ways you help make our school a wonderful place to learn and grow each day. Merci beaucoup!

Why do we need to replace our playground?

You may have heard that VAS has begun the process to install a new playground. Playgrounds have a life span from an insurance and liability perspective, so the CBE requires them to be replaced after a certain number of years. Also, standards for accessibility have changed since the playground was built, so this is a great opportunity to make our playground more inclusive. Stay tuned for information and updates on the project in the weeks ahead.

Clothing and Water

With the changing temperatures, please send students dressed for the weather as they will be spending more time outside.  As well, please help your child/ren to pack a water bottle.

Physical Education

PE Footwear Reminder

As we finish the year, our students from K-3 will participate in soccer-related activities while our Grade 4-5 students will be engaging in basketball. This is a friendly reminder that students should come prepared with appropriate athletic footwear.

Crocs, sandals, slides, and other open-heel footwear are not suitable for these activities, as they do not provide the stability, traction, or foot protection needed for safe participation.

Please help ensure your child is safe and prepared for PE by having proper athletic footwear accessible on PE days.

Thank you for your support!

Kind regards,
David Pakosh

1.    Online Session - Helping Children with their Anxiety

Hello Varsity Acres School families and caregivers.  Are you looking for ways to support a child dealing with worries or anxiety?

Join us online for an insightful session with Heather MacDonald, a psychologist and family counselor specializing in anxiety.  School staff and parents have the same goal: raising resilient kids.  To get there, we need a consistent approach.  Heather will discuss why "rescuing" children from their fears can backfire and teach us evidence-based strategies to use at home instead - like scaffolding, exposure, and helping kids "talk back" to their worries.

When:      Monday June 1, 2026, 6:30 PM

Let's work together to build strong, resilient youth!

2.    June 4 event- OLC
