Gallery Walk

Thank you to Mme Kelley Ireland for your vision and leadership to create a successful and meaningful evening for students and their families.

Oki, Bonjour, Tansi, Hello!

The Gallery Walk was a resounding success last night with families and students enjoying the wonderful art, displays, and sharing of learning around land acknowledgment. It was a true celebration of learning and building of community!

Our Elder Saa’kokoto was so pleased with how student learning came to life through reconcilACTION and how meaningful the evening was for him.  It was an honour to have him in attendance.

A big thanks goes out to our VAS Kindergarten, Grade One and Grade Two teachers, for their engagement in this important work and believing in the process.  It is a journey, and they didn’t just dip their toes in, they dove in!  The care and attention put into designing meaningful learning task that moved student learning forward, did not go unnoticed! Their commitment was inspiring!

Another enormous thanks goes out to our VAS Lunch Supervisor Team for all their support in preparing for the evening events. We couldn't have done it without them! Mille Mercis!

OurSCHOOL Student Survey Administration in Grade 4 and 5

Varsity Acres School will be participating in an online school perception survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This anonymous survey is completely voluntary for all CBE students.  Please find the details of the survey implementation below.

CBE’s Education Plan prioritizes student voice and well-being in our decision-making processes.  Responses from this survey are used at the system and school level to recognize and improve what is necessary for students to feel safe, welcome, and cared for when at school.

Grades 4-12 students provide feedback on:

  • sense of belonging
  • positive relationships
  • anxiety
  • feeling safe at school
  • life satisfaction
  • general health
  • orientation to well-being
  • goal-oriented
  • self-regulation
  • cultural awareness of others

Demographic questions are also asked on this survey for norming purposes. These are:

Grades 4-12 general

  • age, gender, Indigenous status, immigrant status, home language

At Varsity Acres School, our OurSCHOOL Student Survey administration plan is as follows:

  • Who: Grade 4 and 5 students
  • When: May 12 and 15, 2025
  • Where: during class time

If you have questions or would like to request more information about Varsity Acres School’s upcoming implementation of the OurSCHOOL Student Survey, please contact Mme Courtney at cdkleinswormink@cbe.ab.ca.

Physical Education

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We’re off to a fantastic start with our tennis program at Varsity Acres School! The students have been full of energy and enthusiasm, and it's been a joy to see them learning new skills and having fun outdoors.

In partnership with the Varsity Community Association (VCA), all students are participating in tennis during their Physical Education classes from Monday, May 5 to Thursday, May 23. The program is designed to:
✔ Introduce students to a lifelong sport
✔ Build fundamental movement skills
✔ Provide active outdoor learning opportunities

Reminder: What students need on tennis days
To help your child make the most of these sessions, please ensure they come prepared with:

  • Athletic outdoor running shoes (no sandals, flip-flops, Crocs, or rubber boots)
  • A labelled water bottle
  • A sun hat and sunscreen
  • A tennis racket (optional — we have plenty to share!)

If your family holds a VCA membership, don’t forget you can use their online tennis court booking system to keep the fun going after school!

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher or contact me directly.

Warm regards,
M. David Pakosh
Physical Education Teacher

Think Fast Comedy

Over the past two weeks, students at our school had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a French oral language residency with Think Fast Comedy. Through grade-level appropriate activities and improvisation games, students were able to practice their spoken French in a fun, engaging, and interactive way. This enriching experience helped build students’ confidence and enthusiasm for using French in creative contexts. We are sincerely grateful to VASPFS for their generous support of French culture and school residencies, which made this opportunity possible. Thanks to their contribution, no participation fee was applied to families.
