Music Update
This week the students were fortunate to have Chantal Chagnon, a Métis musician, drummer and storyteller come and teach them about drums. She brought drums that she has made and allowed the students to use them during class and learn some songs. Be sure to ask them about the experience, and how they enjoyed drumming and important teachings that Chantal has shared!
Outdoor Learning Committee Update
You may have noticed that Varsity Field is under construction…this is our new Natural Play Space! This is the newest feature to our Outdoor Learning Lab. The play space will feature logs, steppers and a boulder for students to build their physical literacy skills in a more natural environment. Come on by and check it out with your child(ren) once it’s been inspected and ready is ready to go!
This has been a joint effort between the OLC, VASPFS and VASC in order to bring this initiative to fruition. It is important for us to thank parents and guardians for their time and support of fundraising efforts. We’d also like to thank the parent volunteers who supported the construction of the gaga ball pit. Additional funding and grants from Parks Foundation, Tree Canada the initial crowdfunding campaign, as well as a significant contribution Rife Resources Ltd. provided has led to our gaga pit, our new trees, and the natural play space in Varsity Field.
If you are interested in developing more outdoor learning opportunities for your children, consider joining the Outdoor Learning Committee next school year!
Physical Education Update
Last Week of Tennis
Students are enjoying the tennis unit and we want to thank our neighbours at the Varsity Community Center for their support of our physical education program.
Have You Checked Your Child' s Running Shoe Size Lately?
Students are growing fast and it's always a good idea to check your child's shoe size a few times over the course of the school year. Please remember that students should be wearing good fitting running shoes for physical education classes when indoors and outdoors.
Lost and Found
Please see the following document to see the lost and found items at the school. If not picked up, these items will be donated on May 23.
