A reminder about traffic and parking safety around our school:

  • Please DO NOT park within 5 metres of a crosswalk (city bylaw)
  • Model good traffic safety to your child by crossing at the crosswalk
  • U-Turns are NOT permitted in several locations around our school; please pay special attention to the areas around cross-walks and our bus loading zones
  • Our AMA patrols are out on Valiant Dr and Varsity Dr in the afternoons.

Thank you for your help to ensure that our students and visitors to our school are safe on the roads and sidewalks.

Mayors Annual Christmas Food Drive

Varsity Acres School is proud to support the Mayor's Annual Christmas Food Drive in support of the Calgary Food Bank.  This year we will be collecting donations from Nov. 18-Dec. 16, 2024. Food donations can be sent in with your child and will be placed in the boxes in our main hallway. Monetary donations can be handed in to your child's classroom teacher in an envelope (to be collected at the office).  In another year of uncertainty for so many, please join us in helping to ensure that everyone in Calgary has food on their table this holiday season.  Merci beaucoup.

Phys-Ed

This is a friendly reminder to ensure that your child comes to school with appropriate footwear for PE. Crocs are not acceptable forms of footwear as they don't provide suitable stability or support. Please understand that inappropriate footwear may lead to loss of participation in certain activities due to safety concerns.

Over the course of November, we will be working on our object manipulation skills - sending, receiving, and retaining. Using various objects (foam balls, tennis balls, frisbees, footballs, ribbons, bean bags, etc.), students will develop their throwing and catching skills, while also developing their spatial awareness, power, and evasion skills.

What can you do at home?

Play catch! Show off your dribbling skills. Toss a ball (or other object) from left to right. Play "keep away," in which your child must watch and intercept your evasive techniques (please make sure they win from time to time!). Play copy cat, in which your child has to copy your motions with object manipulation.
