Good evening to our fabulous VAS families

A big and heartfelt thank you to all the parent and guardian volunteers who have helped us with our residencies this week and this month! As well, thank you to the Healthy Hunger and Picture Day parent volunteers for your organization and planning.  Your help, efforts and time make a difference to our students and their learning experiences.  Thank you! Merci! We appreciate you:)

System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP) Letter to parents

The Calgary Board of Education produces the Three-Year System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP) report every spring. This report helps identify schools facing student accommodation challenges, such as high enrolment pressure, a decline in enrolment, or a change in the demographics of students at the school. The solution to these challenges may affect one or more schools and needs careful consideration. Varsity Acres School has been identified in the CBE’s 2024-27 SSAP.  Please see that attached letter: SSAP Letter Varsity Acres .

Terry Fox Run - Thank You's and Donations Total

Thank you to all the parent/guardian volunteers, and cheer teams who came out last Tuesday in support of our Terry Fox run to support cancer research.  Our goal was $3000 and our total in donations is $3,509.50! Thank you for your generosity.

PE Message (Alien In-line update and volunteers, proper footwear for PE)

A huge thank you to every parent volunteer who has assisted with our Alien In-Line residency. Your help ensures that our students are taking full advantage of the limited time they have in the gym to skate, rather than wait!

Unfortunately, we still have many classes without parent volunteers which means less time for our classes to practice their skills. Please reach out to your homeroom teacher or Mr. David (dapakosh@cbe.ab.ca) if you would like to volunteer or just want to confirm times/dates.

Thank you!

For physical education, including Daily Physical Activity blocks with homeroom teachers, we request that students wear proper running shoes. It is important that students do not wear CROCS or other shoes with little support when going off-site for our walking field trips and regular physical activity outside. Merci!

From the Office: Lates, Absences and signing in

In order to support regular attendance and punctuality at school each day, we do regular reviews of our absence and late reports. Letters from the office will be sent home to families to support increasing attendance. We are committed to working together to support students to be at school.

Signing in: A reminder for parents and guardians, as well as all visitors to VAS, to please use the main entrance rather than a courtyard door to enter the building. Please check in at the office upon your arrival. If you will be staying in the building, please sign in and get a visitor’s badge. Thank you.

AMA Patrollers- Patrols have begun! Safety message

After school, grade 5 students will be doing patrols at the crosswalk on Varsity Drive and on the crosswalk at Valiant Drive. The students are very excited to be leaders in our school and help our school community to safely cross the street. Please follow their instructions and wait until they tell you to proceed before entering the crosswalk. To support the work of our patrollers, please park 5 meters from the crosswalk to allow for clear visibility and watch for the patrollers stop signs while driving. We appreciate your support for our excellent patrol team!

Lost and Found

We have accumulated quite a lot of clothing on our lost and found tables. Some of these items have been on the tables since the first week of September. Please note that we are going to bag the unclaimed lost and found items before Thanksgiving. A friendly reminder to label your children's water bottles and clothes. When clothes are labelled, our amazing lunch room team is able to return the items to your child:)

VAS Store is Coming Back!

Need some new VAS swag? Stay tuned! We will share out the VAS store link next week so you can start ordering. Online store will be open October 7-20, 2024.

Fall/Halloween Dance is Back!

The VAS Fall/Halloween Dance will be held on:

Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 6:00- 8:00pm in our school gym.  Entrance will be on the south side of the school at the Valient Drive doors (Kindergarden Entrance)

All family members of students are welcome. Adults must accompany their kids. Costumes are encouraged (no weapons).

You will be able to prepurchase your tickets in the coming weeks. Tickets also sold at the door.

Many volunteers are needed to run the event. We’d love for you to help out! A volunteer signup sheet will be sent out next week.

  • Entrance fee is $5 per person (this is the second largest fundraising event for the school after the casino)
  • There will be music and dancing in the gym, a cake raffle and pizza, snacks and drinks for purchase.
  • CASH ONLY, so please visit the ATM prior to attending

Historically, this event is a wonderful night for the kids to get together with friends, build on our VAS community, dress up in costumes if you so desire, and have lots of fun!  Added bonus - it's a big fundraiser for the school too!

Thank you for your amazing support!
