Trees and Fences
A reminder that students (and siblings of students) should never climb a tree or fence on Varsity Acres School property. This is a safety issue, as well as a concern around respectful behaviour towards nature and our CBE and VAS property. Parents and guardians, please help us by having a conversation with your child(ren) about how to have a safe and respectful approach to the beautiful trees and landscaping at our school. We appreciate your support! Teachers will be talking about personal responsibility and respect of our school property this coming week in class.
PhysEd
Next week, Alien In-Line Skating will arrive at Varsity Acres! From October 1 to 30. Our students will benefit from expert instruction on how to in-line skate in a fun and safe manner. Please ensure that you've returned your child's authorization forms to the school. Your child's specific schedule can be found on your child's Google Classroom. If you have any questions, feel free to contact your homeroom teacher or Mr. David (dapakosh@cbe.ab.ca), VAS' PE specialist.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Orange Shirt Day
Varsity Acres School recognized Orange Shirt Day on Thursday, September 26.
Throughout the school year, students and teachers will engage in meaningful work to build knowledge, understanding and respect for the histories, cultures, contributions and lived experiences of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. Our work this year with Elder Saa’kokoto and Yellow Steps (place-based learning with Jen Doeve) honours our commitment to reconciliation through education and in building stronger connections to the land we learn on.
There is no school on Monday, September 30 and we invite our families to partake in the many events around Calgary that recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Youth Singers, Requesting Your Input
This December, we are excited to welcome the Youth Singers residency who will be working with our grade 3-5 students. At the end of the week, on Friday, December 6, 2024, we will hold a concert to showcase our students' learning and celebrate their skills! We have received feedback that it is not always easy for families to attend a concert in the middle of a school day.
If you are the parent/guardian of a student in grade 3, 4 or 5, we ask that you please share your input about the timing of this concert by answering this 2-question survey: https://forms.office.com/r/L6Z6MM5Apv
Reporting a Late or Absence to the School
The best way to ensure the message is received, the preferred way is to leave a message on the attendance line 403-777-6090 opt 1. Emails are not reliable as they may not be read in time.
Late Arrival Procedures
If your student arrives late to school and misses the class lineup, please enter the school through the front door and check in at the office. We kindly ask that you say goodbye at the office, as our staff will be happy to escort your child to their classroom if they need assistance.
This process helps ensure a smooth transition for your child and allows us to maintain accurate attendance records. Thank you for your cooperation!
