Message from Mme Brooke

Thanks to VASPFS and School Council for a successful first movie night last night! We were at capacity and cozy in the gym. We appreciate the organizers and volunteers who made it happen- watch out for the next one by always reading to the end of your Weekly Message.

Next week is the VAS Winter Carnaval! March 2-6 we celebrate French Canadian culture through art, outdoor fun and tasty treats. There are 3 volunteer spots open for helping to receive and organize the ice blocks for the Olympic ice rings on Thursday, March 5. Sign up here: volunteersignup.org/EH9EJ

Thanks to the grade 2 Carnaval Committee, the Outdoor Learning Committee and VASC members for all the organization and support!

Don't forget to freeze you ice blocks this weekend! See below for instructions.

Enjoy the snow this weekend!

Physical Education – Dance Residency

Sound Kreations Dance Residency (March 2–13)
Over the next two weeks, students will take part in a Sound Kreations dance residency during their Physical Education classes. This program is a part of the PE & Wellness curriculum and will support the development of movement skills, active participation, teamwork, and personal and social responsibility through Hip-Hop, Latin, and Afrobeats dance.

We are grateful to VASPFS for generously covering the full cost of this experience for all students. Due to the condensed schedule, some PE times have been adjusted to ensure every class receives the appropriate number of sessions.

📅 Class-specific dates will be shared through your child’s Google Classroom.
Please see the attached Dance Residency - Parent Letter.pdf  for full details.

Thank you,

M. David

WANTED: Blocks of Ice for Carnaval "Édition Olympique"

To celebrate the unifying spirit of both the 2026 Winter Olympics and our own Carnaval "Édition Olympique", we will construct the Olympic Rings from home-made blocks of ice. For this exciting project to succeed, students will need to freeze blocks of ice at home and transport them to school on Thursday, March 5. There is no limit to how many blocks of ice a student may bring, just what is feasible for them to carry to school.

When freezing ice blocks, please refer to the instructions (link below)to ensure we have enough of each colour to construct the Olympic rings. Please also consider:

-how much space you will need inside your freezer(s) to ensure the 2L paper carton(s) stands upright.

-freezing a 2L paper carton full of water could take as long as three days. THREE days!

-ice expands... Science RULES!

We look forward to seeing students collaborate on what will surely be a memorable homage to the spirt of both Carnaval and the Olympics. Thank you for supporting your child and our Winter Carnaval "Édition Olympique" festivities!
